Internationally active MDAX group chooses Global Business Village
The internationally active mechanical engineering group KION is the latest business to establish its headquarters in Gateway Gardens.
In a joint project, Gross & Partner and OFB are responsible for building a new headquarters for the KION Group with a surface area of 7,800 square metres at the west entrance to Gateway Gardens in Frankfurt. The modern building designed by the Wiesbaden architects BGF+ will have seven floors and two below ground levels with an underground car park. The 250 KION employees are scheduled to move in the third quarter of 2017. The entire building will be on a long-term lease.
The KION Group manufactures and supplies forklift trucks, warehouse technology and associated services, handling seven brands worldwide. It is the market leader in Europe with brands like Linde, Still and Fenwick, second in the world and the leading international supplier in the sector in China. Its 23,500 employees generated more than 5 billion euros for the first time in 2015.
“The KION Group’s move to Gateway Gardens is a further sign of the attractiveness of Frankfurt and the new Gateway Gardens district. Companies with international operations in particular can benefit from Gateway Gardens,” says Olaf Cunitz, mayor and head of the Frankfurt planning and building department. Markus Frank, city councillor and head of the business department, adds: “We are very pleased that the KION Group will be moving into Gateway Gardens – a location that combines high profitability with visibility, attractiveness and great business potential.”
The KION Group will find an ideal infrastructure in Gateway Gardens for its worldwide operations. The company decided to move there because of Frankfurt’s location as one of the largest transport hubs in Europe and the district’s urban development and international flair. A highly efficient and cost-effective building perfectly in keeping with the needs of the KION Group has been developed in close collaboration with Gross & Partner and OFB.
“The innovative architecture of the KION Group headquarters will dominate the west entrance to Gateway Gardens, marking a further outstanding addition to the area,” says Michael Stapf, manager of the Gross & Partner office.
“Alongside the European headquarters of DB Schenker, the KION Group will add another concern of international calibre to Gateway Gardens. This will send a signal to the market of the attractiveness of this location close to Frankfurt Airport,” says Arne Berg, manager of the OFB Project Development office in Frankfurt.
The lease agreement was brokered by Colliers International.
