On 19 April 2016, the Feuring Group, together with Bilfinger Hochbau GmbH, inaugurated the building site for the new Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport in Frankfurt Gateway Gardens. Completion of this brand’s first hotel in Germany is scheduled for the first quarter of 2018.

The hotel, with an area of around 19,000 square metres, will be built on a site measuring approximately 3,000 square metres in De-Saint-Exupéry-Strasse 4 in Frankfurt - Gateway Gardens, and will be located directly next to the “Gateway Garden” central park. The hotel has been designed by Hans Dieter Reichel of the architects Reichel + Stauth, Brunswick, and is set to receive LEED SiIver certification. Besides 312 rooms, around 110 underground parking slots will be provided. Access to the stop of the Gateway Gardens metro railway system currently under construction will be located directly in front of the hotel, thus assuring optimum links to Frankfurt’s city centre (approximately 10 minutes and three stops to Frankfurt Main Station) and to the airport (circa 2 minutes and just one stop).

Back in March 2016, Union Investment had signed a forward purchase agreement with the Feuring Group, so as to acquire the hotel after its completion for the open-ended property fund UniImmo: Global. The Feuring Group will be operating the hotel as a lessee for the next 30 years under the Hyatt Place brand.

“The economy in the Rhine-Main region stands for healthy growth, cosmopolitan internationality, and above all dynamism. To make sure things stay that way, and that companies continue to have space for their growth, we have created our new Frankfurt Gateway Gardens commercial district. Our new district is not only vibrant with life, but also, thanks to being situated at Frankfurt Airport, in the heart of Europe, perhaps the most mobile location on the old continent,” to quote Olaf Cunitz, Mayor of Frankfurt am Main.

“The hotel market in Frankfurt, and particularly in the Airport City, is benefiting from the massively increased numbers of passengers at the airport,” explains Matthias Lowin, Managing Director of Feuring. “The Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport offers an up-to-the-future, attractive room concept, and is thus a unique amenity at the airport. The facades, thanks to generously dimensioned windows down to floor level in all rooms, and the light-flooded public areas of the ground floor, come across as particularly inviting. One striking feature is the location directly next to the park of Gateway Gardens. Which means we will also be offering special park suites with a magnificent view of the scenery.”

“We deeply appreciate being chosen as a partner for this reference property at such a prominent location,” to quote Wolfgang Spohr, branch manager at Bilfinger Hochbau GmbH. “Thanks to its facade design and its carefully chosen overall height, it fits in ideally with the architectural ensemble of Gateway Gardens, without losing its own distinctive identity.”

“In the shape of Gateway Gardens, we have created a rather special kind of district in terms of reachability, city-scaping and internationality. This is confirmed by the continuingly high level of demand. We are delighted that we were able to persuade the Feuring Group of these advantages as well,” says Dr. Kerstin Hennig, Managing Director of the Gateway Gardens property company. “The concept of the Hyatt Place brand is a distinctive enhancement to the district’s concept, and is a wonderful complement to the buildings already in place.”

“We see the Hyatt Place Frankfurt Airport as a promising investment for the future overall, due to its location near the continually expanding airport, the long-term leasing agreement, and the strong, innovative Hyatt Place brand,” says Andreas Löcher, Head of Investment Management Hotel, Union Investment Real Estate GmbH. “We are delighted to note that construction work has begun punctually, so that the first guests can move into their rooms on schedule in early 2018.”

Gateway Gardens, with its 700,000 square metres of planned gross floor area on a site measuring 35 hectares, is one of the largest district development projects in an airport city in Europe. In October 2014, Gateway Gardens was the first commercial district to receive the DGNB Certificate in Gold for its sustainability. Before the end of this year, over 40 per cent of the area will already be marketed.
